Claude artifacts: 50% less session-limit use

From 1 to 15 Oct 2026, Claude artifacts use 50% less of the five-hour session limit. The weekly cap does not change.

The offer runs 1 to 15 October 2026, Pacific Time. It applies only to the five-hour session cap, not the weekly one.

On 1 October 2026 the @claudeai account posted on X: “For two weeks, start a design, deck, or doc in the Claude app, and the work that follows in that conversation uses 50% less of your usage limits.” Anthropic’s Help Center article “Artifact usage promotion” narrows that line to artifacts: the 50% applies only to the five-hour session limit, the cap in a rolling five-hour window. The weekly limit stays the same.

The offer applies automatically on Pro, Max, and Team from 1 October 2026, 11:00 PT, 15:00 in Brasília. On 7 October, 10:00 PT (14:00 in Brasília), the same article added Free plans. Free use before that hour does not get the discount. Both windows end 15 October 2026, 23:59 PT (16 October, 03:59 in Brasília). Enterprise, seat-based or usage-based, is out. A second official post the same day repeats the automatic offer on Pro, Max, and Team. There is no code and no setting. Anthropic sells Claude. This newsroom has not tested the promotion.

First: what an artifact is

In Claude, an artifact is a file the model builds in the conversation: a document, slides, or a design. The app opens it beside the chat, like a draft in its own pane. The comparison stops there: this is not a price coupon. It only reduces how much that conversation eats of the session limit.

If the chat starts from the Output menu (Document, Presentation, or Design), the discount applies from the first message. If the file appears in the middle of a normal chat, the message that creates it is billed at the standard rate. The next ten messages get the discount.

How the 50% Claude artifacts discount works

In chats, the next 10 messages after Claude creates or edits an artifact use 50% less of the session limit. After that, the standard rate returns until another create or edit. Inside a single reply, only the first 15 steps (search, a tool, an artifact update) get the discount.

In Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s task product, only cloud tasks count. Tasks that run on the computer, in Claude Desktop, are out. If the task starts from Output, the discount covers about the first 45 minutes, according to the company. On other cloud tasks, including those moved into Workspace, it covers up to the next 80 steps after an artifact create or edit. Messages billed with usage credits, extra paid usage, stay on the standard rate.

Anthropic can change or end the promotion before the stated close. The terms say the offer has no cash value and is not transferable.

What is left out

The Help Center list: Claude Code (the coding client), the API (the programming interface), Claude in Slack, local Cowork on desktop, scheduled or unattended tasks, artifacts from the previous version, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides via the Drive connector, and the standalone Claude Design app, including projects published from there. Designs made inside Claude, from Output → Design, are in.

There is no official figure for how much money an app user saves. RUMOR: any cash savings amount. The promotion reduces the count against the session limit, not the monthly fee and not API prices.

Sonnet 5.5, according to the company

The same X post asks people to try Claude Sonnet 5.5: “Give it a try with Claude Sonnet 5.5. It has a strong eye for design and builds slides that need minimal editing.” That is a recommendation, not a default-model switch. RUMOR: Sonnet 5.5 becoming the default for slides and design. The Help Center does not mention a new default.

The model came out on 28 September 2026, the second in the Claude 5.5 family. Anthropic says it is 30%+ faster at generating text than Sonnet 5 and up to 30% cheaper per task on its own measurement, at the same token price ($2 per million input, $10 per million output). A token is a chunk of text the model processes. “Up to 30%” is a ceiling, not an average. Mashable, in a piece by Chance Townsend, covered that launch, not this promotion.

What we still don’t know

There is no official user count and no average savings figure. The X headline says “usage limits”; in the terms, the 50% applies only to the five-hour session, with a cap of 10 messages and 15 steps. The terms allow Anthropic to end the offer before 15 October.
